Anja Hendrikse

B.Com (Hons), CA(SA)

She completed her B.Compt degree in 2006 with Unisa and at the same time signed of her articles with J.S. Brewin and Company Inc. Anja joined AM Smith and Company Inc. in May 2006 as an audit manager.

During her time with AM Smith and Company she completed her B.Compt Hons degree and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2010.

In 2011 Anja was appointed as a director at AM Smith and Company Inc.

Anja was very involved in the audit of small to medium sized enterprises as well as the audit of JSE listed clients all in various industries.

AM Smith and Company Inc. merged with Watermans Registered Auditors on the 1st of December 2013 and at that time Anja became a partner in Watermans.

Tilena Aarons

B.Compt (Hons), CA (SA)

Tilena completed her articles in 2009 at MasengViljoen Incorporated upon obtaining her Bcompt degree with Unisa.

In 2010 she completed her Bcompt Hons degree with Unisa. She was then appointed as audit manager at MasengViljoen Incorporated and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2014.

Tilena has extensive experience in the audit of small to medium sized enterprises as well as the audits conducted by the Auditors General offices.

During May 2014 she joined Watermans as an audit manager.  Tilena was appointed as partner in December 2015.

Brendan Graham

B.Com (Hons), CA(SA), H.Dip.Tax (RAU), Dip.Int Tax Law (PTA)

Brendan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1997 and began practising as Graham and Company in 1998.

In addition to being a registered auditor and tax practitioner Brendan also holds two postgraduate diplomas in taxation, an H Dip Tax completed in 2004 and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Taxation completed in 2006. 

In addition to the audit function Brendan has expertise in corporate and personal income tax, corporate and statutory services, company secretarial practice.

Brendan has advised extensively on the purchase and sale of businesses, the management and formation of trusts, drafting of wills, acting as executor of deceased estates, consulting, best accounting practices and restructurings. 

Brendan has acted as company secretary of listed and unlisted public companies.

Richard Watt


Richard holds a Fellow membership with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (FCIS) since 2001.

He graduated with the Institute in 1993 and after obtaining the relevant working experience within  Watermans he then qualified for such member status. 

Richard holds Fellow membership status with the Chartered Institute of Business Management (CIBM) since 1993. He also qualified from the University of Pretoria with a diploma in Strategic Taxation in 1998.

Richard joined  Watermans in 1994 and worked in the company secretarial and taxation departments until 1998 when he was then appointed a Director.

Richard has been an integral part of  Watermans for now over twenty years and continues to maintain and provide value added as well as professional services to his client base.

In 2013 the practice acquired the business of AM Smith & Company Inc. and the practice now boasts approximately 45 staff over two offices. At Watermans we treat your business like it was our own. We assist start-up businesses, growing & mature businesses to ensure compliance with the many rules and regulations required to be complied with.

Watermans has offices in Sunninghill, Sandton & in Little Falls on the West Rand.

Compilation of Financial Statements

Financial statements contain a significant amount of information about a company’s financial health and are used to help companies make informed financial decisions. It is in these documents that a business owner can identify the areas of the company that provide the best return on investment, and also those where expenses should be reduced.

Independent Reviews

As independent reviewers and a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), Watermans adheres to the various requirements and regulations to perform independent reviews and to express a conclusion on the financial statements presented to us.

Secretarial Services

Our corporate services department provides a full range of secretarial services as prescribed by The Companies Act.

We support clients in the formation of companies and trusts and attend to all the ancillary duties in terms of maintaining compliance with the relevant laws. Our team is on standby for any advisory support to directors of companies with regards to their duties, responsibilities, and powers.


We have a specialist tax team that operates as a full-function tax advisory and compliance service. This team supports clients with a variety of tax-related matters.

Our clients are guided and advised throughout the financial year on tax best practices and legalities associated with taxes to make informed decisions and to minimise liability.


At Watermans, our accounting department is a dedicated group of employees who only focus on accounting matters. The accounting functions we perform give our clients peace of mind that all their financial information is captured accurately and is up to date to provide an overview of the income and expenses in the business.

All accounting functions can be performed remotely or on the client’s premises.


Medium to large corporate enterprises benefit the most from this service. We have a specialist team of auditors with competencies across various industries who conduct statutory, voluntary, and limited purpose audits.

Our audit approach is modern and sophisticated, and our software is of a high standard.

Outsourced Services

Payroll administration has become a critical function since employers need to file employees’ tax returns and monthly UIF returns as well as their biannual IRP5 reconciliation.

The Watermans Payroll Department will assist clients set up their payroll system according to the relevant law and manage all monthly payroll functions.

In about 2003 we moved our Group Company Secretarial work to Graham & Co and this grew to a Group of about 50 companies by 2010, all of which were administered by Graham & Co and thereafter Watermans. Watermans is a part of the Africa Community Thusa (ACT) a Non Profit Organisation and Public Benefit Organisation that raises and generates funds and supplies to support various charitable initiatives. Watermans is committed to being a responsible and contributing corporate citizen. We first began our involvement with ACT in 2007 and as part of our CSR we offer our services as Accounting Officer.

A number of volunteers at Watermans give freely of their time to coordinate and assist in the delivery of the various initiatives. Our most recent involvement – the Othandweni Feeding Scheme (Othandweni meaning – “the place of love”) situated in Soweto JHB  – where along with ACT we spent the day interacting with and volunteering our services.Funding and Supplies.All the initiatives and projects have no cost to the recipients as the all the funding and supplies required for the various initiatives come from a group of individuals who support ACT, the founders, and a couple of companies and retail outlets who contribute as and when they can.
